Our new hedge
We have decided that it would be best to plant hedging across the gap between us and the neighbouring field (which isn't ours). This makes a good place for the hawthorn and blackthorn and we intend to keep it cut low so we don't block out our fantastic view. The soil here though is clay, partly as it's subsoil which was brought to the surface in the cable trenching operations, and planting is hard going. Dave uses a spade and mattock to make a trench and I try and fit the substantial root systems into the gap. Once we've finished puss gets off her bed in the hay where she's been sunbathing all morning and comes to inspect our work.
