It seems a strange way to spend Mothering Sunday, but after church I decided to try out a method of cleaning silver that I'd heard of and researched via the internet (I had of course intended to do it on Saturday but that hadn't happened!) The silverware went into a washing up bowl, lined with silver foil, with a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda and very hot water and amazingly it worked cleaning off the tarnish in around 15 minutes without the terrible smell that normally accompanies this task.
