Old maps

My birthday treat sees us staying at the Cavendish Hotel on the edge of the Chatsworth Estate. Lining the walls there are lots of old maps commissioned by the Duke of Devonshire (mainly during the 17th century). I am thrilled to spot Somersal Herbert clearly shown in the Appletree Hundred, spelled then with a double 'l' as Somersall Herbert (other variations show it as Somershall). It is also interesting to see that our nearest village Doveridge is shown as the more descriptive Dovebridge on this map.
